New House at Whitebridge

The restricted materials palette of timber, slate and glass and the post and beam method of construction was designed to minimise environmental impact. The modular form produced economy whilst providing an opportunity for varying combinations of mono and duo pitched volumes which reduced the massing and created internal variation.

The natural habitat around the house was to be preserved as much as possible and so the ground floor was set slightly above the landscape with decked terraces to key rooms. Indentations of form allowed a counterpoint between the regularity of the man made and randomness of the natural environment.
